School & Group Tours

Whether you're a classroom teacher, homeschool educator, scout leader, senior group organizer, or simply a group interested in learning more about Pennsylvania's colonial past, Bushy Run Battlefield offers engaging and interactive educational experiences tailored to your group's needs.

Located on the site of the pivotal 1763 Battle of Bushy Run, our museum and battlefield provide a unique opportunity to explore the people, events, and cultures that shaped early America through hands-on activities, guided interpretation, and immersive storytelling.

School Tours

Bushy Run Battlefield offers curriculum-based educational programs for public schools, private schools, homeschool groups, and co-ops.

Cost: $6 per student

(Teachers and required chaperones admitted free.)

Because every classroom studies history differently, our programs are highly customizable and can be adapted to fit the age, interests, and curriculum requirements of your students.

A typical school visit may include:

Museum Tour

Explore our museum galleries and discover the story of the Battle of Bushy Run, Pontiac's War, colonial Pennsylvania, Native American cultures, and life on the eighteenth-century frontier.

Educational Film

Students can view our short educational film, which provides an overview of the battle and its significance in colonial American history.

Fur Trade Card Game

One of our most popular activities, this interactive game allows students to experience the challenges and opportunities of the colonial fur trade. Through trading, negotiating, and decision-making, students gain a better understanding of frontier economics and the complex relationships between European settlers, Native American communities, and merchants.

Hands-On Artifact Experience

Students can examine and handle a variety of animal pelts and trade goods similar to those that played an important role in the eighteenth-century fur trade.

Battlefield Walking Tour

Weather permitting, groups may choose to take a guided walk across portions of the historic battlefield to better understand the events of August 1763.

Musket Demonstration

For groups studying military history or frontier life, a musket firing demonstration may be available upon request when appropriate for the age and interests of participants.

Additional activities may be available depending on group size, age level, and scheduling needs.

Adult & Group Tours

Bushy Run Battlefield also welcomes adult groups, senior organizations, historical societies, clubs, tour groups, and other organizations interested in learning more about the region's rich colonial heritage.

Unlike our student programs, adult tours can be customized to focus on specific historical topics and often provide a deeper exploration of the site's history, archaeology, military significance, and preservation efforts.

Group tours may include:

  • Guided museum tours

  • Battlefield walking tours

  • Educational presentations

  • Colonial-era trade and frontier life discussions

  • Hands-on artifact experiences

  • Fur trade activities adapted for adult audiences

  • Musket demonstrations (when available)

  • Specialized programs focused on military history, Native American history, archaeology, or colonial Pennsylvania

Because each group's interests and needs are different, tour pricing varies based on group size, program length, and requested activities.
